Cancer Treatment Centers of America

December 18, 2024

FCSN is proud to have Sustaining Alliances with Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), as well as Moffitt Cancer Center, University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center. These alliances help us achieve our mission by satisfying our need for a comprehensive and personalized wellness approach to our nation’s firefighters diagnosed with cancer.

CTCA Atlanta’s Dr. Miller, chief of thoracic surgery, was recently featured in a news story in which he shared how critical it is for firefighters to be educated about how to lower their risk of exposure to cancer-causing chemicals https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/fire-departments-tackle-a-new-foe-in-fighting-blazes-cancer.   You can also read about the good work being done by Forsyth County Fire Division in Georgia to better protect fire service personnel.   Per Miller, research shows firefighters have a 9% higher risk of developing cancer and 14% higher risk of dying from it, than the general public.  Miller also says firefighters need to be vigilant about wearing protective equipment like masks not just while they are knocking down a fire, but during the clean-up period, known as the overhaul.  Thank you, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, for taking care of our firefighters diagnosed with cancer and educating them on best practices for firefighter cancer prevention.
