On September 19th, the Virginia Chapter of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network held its second annual golf tournament at Lee’s Hills Golf Club in Fredericksburg. The event was a huge success due to many generous sponsors, golfers and volunteers. The event honored eight Virginia firefighters that lost their lives to occupational cancer in the last year.
Welcoming the players was Spotsylvania County Fire Chief Jay Cullinan, FCSN Chief Operations Officer Joe Schumacher and Virginia State Director Steve Weissman. BagPiper, Fairfax County Battalion Chief Matt Lopez led the field of teams to the course where the competition and camaraderie began.
With the support of our major sponsors, such as: VCU-Massey Cancer Center, Grail, Fairfax County Professional Firefighters, Mission BBQ, and Blue Ridge Suppliers as well as from the generosity of the golfers, over $28,000 was raised to support the Firefighter Cancer Support Network’s mission.
